August 4, 2011
We left Billings MT around 7:15 a.m. Stopped at Pompey's Pillar National Monument. Climbed the many stairs to see William Clark's name and the date which he carved into the sandstone on the return trip down the Yellowstone River.
Traveled I90 to Medora and the southern section of Theodore Roosevelt National Park. Viewed the film and toured the museum in the visitors' center. Drove a short while on the driving tour up to the Prairie Dog town. No Burrowing Owls. :-(
Saw the Chimney and remains of the meat packing plant in Chimney Park. Ate lunch at the Cowboy Cafe. Delicious potato soup.
In New Salem, we drove up to see Salem Sue, the giant statue of a Holstein cow.
On the way to Jamestown ND, we passed several areas which were still flooded. Frontier Town in Jamestown has a giant buffalo. We are at the KOA right on I94. It is like camping in a median strip.
