July 9, 2011
Well, I see I am 4 days behind. Wednesday Lin, my sister, and I went to Sault Ste. Marie shopping
most of the day. I was feeling exhausted when we got back. She was still full of energy. Of course, she is 10 years younger than I.
That night I was ill several times, slept in the next morning, and felt like a wet dishrag all day and evening. I was suppose to go over to the school at 2:00 to help put the sale books back in the hallway so the classroom was free for story time and crafts. John was nice enough to sub for me so Pat didn't have to do it alone.
By Friday I was feeling better, just not top notch. We went out to breakfast and dinner, so there wasn't any cooking to be done. John, Lin, and Scott rode M134 toward Cedarville for a ways then back to the ferry dock.
Today Lin and Scott left for home around 7:00 a.m. John was putting in new under counter lights, and I was doing laundry. The travelers just called to say they arrived home safely. No pictures tonight.

Pictures of the three ships John and Scott visited today.

Today Jen left on the 9:10 a.m. ferry to return to Ohio.
John, Scott, Lin and I went to breakfast at Pins Restaurant.
John and Scott took the ferry to Detour to view some ships. Two were at the old coal dock: the Atkinson, which carried train cars across Lake Michigan and the Sherwin, which carried aggregate on the Great Lakes. Then they went to see a ship pulled onto the shore, which will eventually become a B&B. They met the man who owns it, and he took them on a tour.
Lin and I went into town and went to all the gift shops.

July 4, 2011
Off to the Book Sale at the school by 8:30 a.m. The sale ran from 10:00-2:00. Lots of people came through before and after the parade and bought lots of books. Don't know what our profit was yet.
Everyone else went to the parade. John brought us homemade strawberry shortcake from the Homemakers' booth. Yum!
Returned home and made Watergate Salad. Jen made fancy 4th of July cupcakes. We left for Ropp's picnic about 4:15. The potluck with grilled hamburgers and hot dogs was delicious as usual.
We returned to the cabin to change into longer pants and long sleeves. Went over to Harry's hanger at the airport to watch the fireworks. Took our bug spray with us. The mosquitoes were not as bad as usual. The fireworks were great. They started around 10:00. A fun 4th of July on the island once again.

July 3, 2011
I left the house at 6:30 a.m. with 8 vases of wildflowers, 2 pumpkin pies, and a container of Cool Whip. Arrived at the elementary school around 7:00. Plugged in the coffee, put the vases on the tables, and started to cut pies. During the morning we had about 12-15 different kinds of pie donated for the luncheon. We also served sloppy joes, hot dogs, coney dogs, chips, and drinks. All the money goes for various projects that support the Drummond Island Library.
John, Lin, Jen and Heather came for lunch, and I took a break and joined them. Then Heather and Jen left for Heather's folks house. John and Lin headed over to the north side to meet Scott for a bike ride.
By then the second shift of workers came in, so I left for home. It was good to sit down after standing for 5 hours.
This evening we called and ordered a couple of pizzas for dinner. After dinner we read our books. Jen baked two dozen cupcakes to take to the 4th of July picnic at Ropp's. Then Lin, Jen and I played Cut-throat Solitaire. I won for a change. Yea!

Today Lin and I went to 3 garage sales. Then we picked some wildflowers for the vases that will be the centerpieces at the Arts and Crafts Luncheon tomorrow.
After lunch we went to the school to help make all the salads for the luncheon. John, Scott, Jen and Heather went to lunch at Deb's Island Restaurant.
Around 3 John, Lin, Scott and I rode our recumbents on Big Shoal Rd. Then the 3 of them went on all the way to Bass Cove and back another 19 miles.
Jen and Heather went off to hear a band at the Northwood Bar and join friends. We older folks are just sitting and reading until it's time for bed.
Last night Jen made a John a belated Father's Day rhubarb pie. After dinner tonight there is just a small piece left.
Beautiful sunset sky tonight with Common Loons, Ducks and Double-creasted Cormorants going by. Pictures later.
